Electrostatic dissipative (ESD) refers to a material property that allows static electric charges to flow to a grounded point in a controlled, safe manner rather than accumulating on a surface or discharging suddenly. ESD laminate tops, for example, maintain a surface resistance in the range of 10^6 to 10^9 ohms per square, which is the defined static dissipative range per ANSI/ESD S20.20 standards. This controlled resistance prevents dangerous static buildup that can damage sensitive electronic components, battery cells, and semiconductors during assembly and handling.
